Regular and punctual school attendance helps our children get the best possible start in life. Children who miss school frequently are more likely to fall behind and achieve less well.

It is the legal responsibility of parents and carers to ensure their children attend school. Children sometimes have to miss school because of illness or if they have long term medical issues. If this is the case, parents should contact school the same day to let us know the reason that their child is not in school.

At Hovingham, we work collaboratively with parents and (where relevant) othe agencies to ensure that all pupils are encouraged and supported to attend school regularly.  Our goals are to:

  • Secure high and increasing rates of attendance.
  • Raise attainment and achievement levels by having high expectations of attendance.
  • Promote the importance of good attendance to children and parents.
